Our ocean defines our planet. It sustains us… and it is home to more than half of all life on earth today. Yet for too long, we have taken the ocean for granted. Our actions have pushed species to the brink… And impacted every ocean habitat… no matter how remote… or how deep. We haven’t understood what the ocean does for us. The effects of climate change have been softened by the ocean. But now we are facing the consequences: the seas are warming… rising… and becoming more acidic. It’s a sobering thought, that coral reefs may be lost within the next century.

近年綠海龜在香港的數量大減，估計原因是漁民過度捕獵海龜蛋，或遭漁船的漁網和繩纏繞致死，所以大家一定要努力守護海洋環境，救救綠海龜！

近年，人見人愛的中華白海豚數目逐漸減少，根據漁護署最新監測報告顯示，去年 4 月至今年 3 月期間，在本港水域出沒的中華白海豚數量只錄得不足 40 條。若果不好好保育，恐怕很快便會絕跡本港。

馬蹄蟹是一種古老的海洋動物，牠比恐龍還要早在地球上出現，具有極高的歷史價值。香港市面上有部分海鮮酒家都會出售馬蹄蟹，拒絕購買就是保育馬蹄蟹的其中一種好方法！

小齒鋸鰩的最大特徵是擁有一把像鋸齒劍狀的嘴巴，叫做吻鋸，其長度可達身長的三分之一，用來撞擊魚群，方便覓食。不過，亦因為長長的吻鋸，令牠們容易被漁網纏繞，面臨瀕臨滅絕危機。

北海獅是體形最大的一種海獅，叫聲很像獅吼，牠們喜歡夜間活動。雄性與雌惟的北海獅體形差異甚大，成年的雄性北海獅最重更可達 1,000 公斤！近年，北海獅已被列入《世界自然保護聯盟》瀕危物種紅色名錄。

出現於香港水域中的中華白海豚又稱為粉紅海豚。中華白海豚的體色會隨著年齡改變，成年個體的粉色外表與接近表皮血管血液循環有關係。目前，保育學家發出警告，表示中華白海豚數量不斷減少，過去十年來總數量已經少了60%，現在只剩下約60隻。為什麼會這樣呢？我們又該怎麼做才好呢？

Currently, there are only seven species of Sea Turtles in the world. And Green Sea Turtle is the only species that has breeding records in Hong Kong. However, marine pollution has negatively affected their survival. They may be hurt from time to time by ghost nets, marine debris and ship propellers!
目前全世界嘅海龜有7 種，而唯一會喺香港繁殖嘅品種就係綠海龜啦！ 不過香港嘅海域愈嚟愈多海洋垃圾，令佢哋好難生存。佢哋會誤食海洋垃圾，有時仲會被船隻嘅螺旋槳割傷等等，真係好慘呀！

Acropora corals are some of the commonly seen hard corals in Hong Kong, which look like the antlers of stag. 🦌 Corals actually provide food and shelter for many kinds of marine animals! But the problem of coral bleaching is getting more serious due to the water pollution and climate change.

香港其實擁有好多種珊瑚，而呢啲睇落去好似雄鹿角咁嘅石珊瑚就係鹿角珊瑚啦🦌，好特別！珊瑚仲係好多動物嘅屋企嚟㗎！但隨住海水污染同氣候變化，珊瑚白化愈嚟愈嚴重，差啲認唔到佢哋呀 😔

中華白海豚是香港1997年回歸的吉祥物，當年在港棲息的白海豚有145條，但最新紀錄只有47條，數量大減。有一群海豚守護者，每星期都會出海、甚至上山、乘直升機記錄海豚出沒情況。他們每星期都會「探海豚」，見證初生海豚出生後，一眾海豚圍起來歡呼的樣子，同時也見證最令人心酸的場面。

Plastic bags are essentially indestructible, yet they're used and thrown away with reckless abandon. Most end up in the ocean, where they pollute the water and harm marine life; the rest are burned in garbage piles, where they release harmful dioxins into the atmosphere. Melati and Isabel Wijsen are on a mission to stop plastic bags from suffocating their beautiful island home of Bali.

塑料袋本質上是堅不可摧的，但它們被隨意使用和丟棄。 大多數最終進入海洋，污染水源並危害海洋生物； 其餘的則在垃圾堆中焚燒，將有害的二噁英釋放到大氣中。 Melati 和 Isabel Wijsen兩位來自巴厘島的青年人發起了阻止塑料袋以保護他們的美麗島嶼家園-巴厘島。 

儘管中華白海豚在中國被列為「國家一級保護動物」，也是1997年香港回歸的吉祥物，但牠們在香港水域越來越難以生存。大型海上工程、來往港澳的高速船、棄置漁網等海洋垃圾不僅破壞了牠們的棲息地，也對牠們的生命構成威脅。而來自工廠及海洋基建的污染物，更會嚴重危害海豚的健康，甚至令幼豚夭折。 

據香港漁護處委託「香港鯨豚研究計劃」所做的監察報告，2018年4月至2019年3月在香港水域出沒的中華白海豚數量降至「歷史新低」，僅有32隻。與此同時，香港鯨豚研究計劃的2020年報告亦指出，在香港水域發現的中華白海豚當中，新生及幼豚僅佔2.5％，遠較2003年的7.9％為低，而由於沒有足夠的新生命來延續物種，中華白海豚可能會在不久將來消失於香港水域。

The mascot of Hong Kong’s 1997 handover, the Chinese white dolphin is listed as a “Grade 1 National Key Protected Species” in mainland China. A 2019 government report indicates that the number of Chinese white dolphins living in the Hong Kong water fell to a “historic low” population of just 32. 

Meanwhile, a 2020 report conducted by wildlife research program Hong Kong Cetacean Research Project cited that newborns and young calves comprised just 2.5 per cent of the total Chinese white dolphin population sighted in Hong Kong, compared to 7.9 per cent in 2003. The low birth rate may eventually lead to regional extinction as there are not enough new dolphins to sustain the population, says the report.
